On Friday, 14th of June 2024, at 6 pm, we invite you to the premises of the Pekarna Magdalenske meže for the final presentation of the process of the research residency project of GuestRoomMaribor, CONSTRUCTING CARE.
Last month, 5 artists in Maribor explored current issues related to the notion of care and caring through art and critical theory. They addressed the global crisis of care from their own and local perspectives, with a special focus on the situation in Maribor, where they met with various organisations and experts in the field of care work. They drew on personal and interpersonal experiences of care work, the political dimensions of the care crisis, such as the lack of adequate state support, the feminisation of care work, the underpaid nature of care work, the exploitation of migrant women and the gendered aspects of invisible, unpaid care work.
In the final presentation, Eszter Kállay (HU), Daria Khrystych(UA), Martyna Miller (PL), Vitória Monteiro (BR, AU) and Teri Szűcs (HU) will summarise their experiences, impressions and plans resulting from the one-month residency. This will also be a time to say goodbye and make contacts and plan future collaborations.
The event takes place in the context of the 30th anniversary of the Cultural Centre Pekarna, which takes place from 10th to 16th of June 2024. Full programme is available here: https://pekarnamm.org/23614ng
